If you have a favourite brand that is not approved under the cruelty free Standard then write and ask them to join.

Is your favourite mascara cruelty free? What about your preferred moisturizer? Is the household cleaning product you’d like to use tested on animals?

If you have a favourite brand that is not approved under the cruelty free Standard then write and ask them to join. Companies want to respond to consumer demand so if enough people contact them asking for ethical products, together we can bring about a change for laboratory animals.

Check www.gocrueltyfree.org to find out if your favourite brand is cruelty free. If it isn’t, write a letter to the manufacturer and ask them to go cruelty free!

Suggested text for your letter:

Dear____________

I would like to buy your products but I will only do so if they are approved under the Humane Cosmetics Standard (HCS) / Humane Household Products Standard (HHPS).

The HCS/HHPS is the world's only internationally recognised scheme that enables consumers to easily identify and purchase products which are genuinely cruelty free. In [your country] it is operated by [member organisation operating the HCS/HHPS].

Approved companies must:

1. No longer conduct or commission animal testing

2. Apply a verifiable fixed cut-off date i.e. a date after which none of your products or product ingredients have been animal tested

3. Be open to an independent audit throughout your supply chain and adhere to your animal testing policy and the Standard's strict criteria

So if your products are not tested on animals, there's only one way to prove it - join the Humane Cosmetics Standard (HCS) / Humane Household products Standard (HHPS).
