New survey shows public concern on animal testing in Europe

A new European Commission ‘Eurobarometer’ survey analysing the attitude of European citizens to science and technologies has found marked divisions in opinion as to whether researchers should experiment on animals even if this research can claim to lead to benefits for human health.  This survey seeks to identify changes in attitude towards science by comparing its finding with earlier polls from 2001 and 2005.

ECEAE disappointment over first animal testing proposal granted by ECHA

The ECEAE has today expressed its disappointment following an announcement by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) that it has given the go ahead to the first proposal for animal testing under the REACH public scrutiny system. This now means that thousands of animals will be subjected to cruel poisoning tests.

ECEAE responds to proposals for animal testing under REACH

The European Coalition to End Animal Testing (ECEAE) has just submitted comments on proposals to test two chemical substances on animals.

The ECEAE has campaigned tirelessly against the use of animal testing under REACH and has recruited two scientific experts to advise on the testing proposals as they are submitted by companies.

ECEAE welcomes the nomination of Carl Schlyter, as President of EU animal welfare intergroup

The ECEAE welcomes the nomination of Swedish Green MEP Carl Schlyter as President of Intergroup, replacing Caroline Lucas (former British Green MEP) who was elected as the first Green MP in the UK early in May. The Intergroup on the Welfare and Conservation of Animals is an all-party group of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) which takes political initiatives in favour of the greater protection of animals in Europe.
